About Us: History

SyllogisTeks, a St. Louis-based software developer and information technology staffing services provider, was founded in 1992. Company founders, Marilyn (Maurie) and Tom Smith, pooled their financial and experiential strengths to create an organization based on shared personal values and a desire to work together in a family-oriented business. Tom became the first family member to perform consulting services under the SyllogisTeks name. The first employees were hired in 1993 and SyllogisTeks has continued to grow. SyllogisTeks has earned recognition as a leading resource for IT services, internetworking and software products. The desire to provide organizations with high quality, simple, logical solutions to complex information technology issues—all at a reasonable cost—has been consistent throughout our history. The name SyllogisTeks reflects this commitment: the syllogistic argument is simple, logical, yet sophisticated.

In 1994, SyllogisTeks made a reunion of sorts with McDonnell Douglas/EDS, the starting point for most of SyllogisTeks’ staff, by purchasing MRCS® (Multiple Report Creation System), a mainframe report-writing product that several SyllogisTeks employees had been responsible for creating and maintaining while at McDonnell Douglas. The product had been acquired by EDS along with the McDonnell Douglas Information Systems Group and it was sold to SyllogisTeks where it has been maintained and enhanced and has even increased its world-wide client base. MRCS® continues to be considered the workhorse of the report-writing industry and SyllogisTeks continues to provide training and maintenance to its clients. MRCS has been updated with many new features that have kept it relevant and effective after a remarkable 30 years in the market.

In 1995, Maurie Smith left EDS to commit her full attention to SyllogisTeks. She worked as a consultant, a recruiter and as a manager of staffing before becoming the President of SyllogisTeks in 1997. In 2001, Tom relinquished his titles of CEO and Director in order to work on special projects and Maurie took over as Board Chair, CEO and President. In March 2003, Tom left the company to take on a new leadership role at Ispirian Incorporated, specializing in computer forensics. Today, SyllogisTeks is a certified woman-owned, managed and controlled business enterprise.

Under Maurie's leadership, the SyllogisTeks vision continues to grow. The company hasn't strayed from its roots though. The staff continues to challenge the industry with its focus on high quality, reliability, and honesty. SyllogisTeks constantly strives to simplify business with technology.
